Speedo Run For The Cause
So, here is the long story.
In 2009, I joined a local gym. Fuel Fitness
I had been diagnosed with diabetes, but wasn't doing much for my health other than taking my meds. Something happened in that November and a switch was flipped in my mind. I joined the gym right before the first Speedo Run fundraiser. My trainer asked me to run, but I told her that I was a little self-conscious. However, if I was able to get down to 200 lb (90.7 kg) by the run next year, I would run.
With her help, and the other staff at the gym, I did make my goal weight so I thought I should strip down and run around my hometown nearly naked. For those that know me, I'm usually shy, but do have an exhibitionist side to me
The weather on the day of the run was bitter. I believe it was 24°F (-4.4°C), but the wind made it feel colder. It wasn't too bad as we stood [jumped] around waiting for the horn signalling the start, but as we started to run, the wind picked up and took any warmth away. But, as we turned at the end of the street, the only thing cold were my fingers. At 4 points during the run, the leaders would stop and do jumping jacks or push ups to let everyone catch up; letting us all cross the finish line at the same time.
The grand total for this year hasn't been tallied yet. There are still donations coming in. I was able to raise donations from friends and family totalling US$ 257.00 Speedo Run For The Cause
My partner David took some photo's, as I had nowhere to conceal a camera
I still have work to do, and have a new goal of building more muscle and trimming more fat. I'm not so concerned about the number on the scale. I'm OK if it doesn't move at all, as long as I continue to drop pants sizes.
