Jackson Mansion Berwick PA by DwayneF Jackson Mansion Berwick PA by DwayneF
This is was our City Hall. A historic building, donated to the town by Colonel Clarence Jackson while he was in a Civil War Confederate prison. [link]

It is an HDR made from 3 exposures.

Again, I'm biased for my photo. Even though they have an picture of the building from the air on the town website, mine looks better :P

In the left background can be see our old police station. Located in the old carriage house.

edit: 30-April-2008 • I took the suggestion and adjusted the vertical lines in the photo. A small change, but a big improvement.

edit: 08-May-2011 • I changed the title from "city hall" because the building has been donated to the [Berwick Historical Society]</b>. City Hall and the Police Barracks are now in a different building. I was also contacted by [The Columbia County Historical & Genealogical Society]. They would like to use my photo in a display. I definitely feel honored to even be asked. I will surely give them permission and can't wait to see it on display.

The stonework is a bit odd for sucha structure, but I really am impressed by the early ruskin-esque influence on the rooflines and dormers.

I have driven past this building several times since moving to Pennsylvania and I have to admit ... I never knew the history on this house.

Nice shot and the HDR work is very nice! I have been trying to work in HDR but I just haven't gotten the hang of it yet.

Actually, I've lived here all my life and didn't know the whole story until I was researching it for the photo.

This is the first time I've seen stonework on one of these. I've seen brick but...never stone. Gorgeous.

I agree, and unlike many other people's HDR efforts, you are nailing it with great dynamic range and no halos!

For this shot especially I wanted to capture the building...not turn it into a cartoon.

That said, I do my share of "extreme" HDR. It's got a place, and I still would probably use it if the situation called for it.

Great photo. Has an almost 'rendered' quality to it's appearance.

At first, I thought the building looked alot like a local historic building here. Considering we are both in Penna, it would make sense. But I checked the date of completion on your building, it was almost 50 years later then the one I am thinking of.
I figured they were from slightly different time periods based on the design.

There are no good photos of the building [link] I am thinking of. I have been wanting to photograph it, but is sits alongside a highway which isn't all that good for it's longevity!
I may now have gotten a slight *push* into making the 'out of the way' trip to do so.

The Burtner House is a great looking building. I'll keep an eye on your submissions.

I'm very happy with the shot of our City Hall. Thanks for your kind words. Maybe I'll donate a print to the local historical society.

Thanks. Yes it is, of-course, as things go, I drove pass it practically all my life and never gave it much thought. But through photography, has given more more appreciation on the history of the area and PA in general.

That would actually be a good idea, even more so if the accept and display it, cause it would help promote you or atlest have your name in a public area.

Now you've got me thinking of all the historic buildings in my area :)

Actually, we had planned on going to the Joseph Preistly House this coming weekend. I'm not exactly sure, but he has something to do with discovering the Oxygen atom. And his from a rural central PA town to boot!
